Instrumentation: clarinet, trombone, and contrabass
Pylons is a two-movement trio for the peculiar yet lush combination of clarinet, trombone, and contrabass. The work consists mainly of chorale-like textures with slightly altered patterns. Small fluctuations in timbre allow for a meditation on blocks of chords that shimmer in color. The work is designed to be combined with another trio for violin, guitar, and piano. Both trios may, in turn, be combined to become a sextet.
