Program note:

This work was written for photographer Jennifer Garza-Cuen as part of her Displaced Histories project in which artists, writers, and composers are asked to choose a photograph as source of inspiration for artistic output. The photograph I chose was of a war scene – a visceral shot of a violent aftermath. The title of the work comes from a passage from the opening of Samuel Delaney’s novel Dahlgren.
