Prompts is a series of graphic scores that are designed to promote creative improvisation with minimal instructions or guidelines.

This work is for ten players (two groups of five players each) for any type of instruments. The colors, images, and texts are prompts for improvisation. One set of players reads from the first page of the score, and the second set of players reads from the second page. Each player is assigned an arrow indicating a general direction of how to proceed through the color bands in the score.

Performers may consider different strategies for interpreting the work as they deem appropriate, or they may choose not to strategize at all and simply perform what they wish with little-to-no correlation to the colors/images. In general, players proceed through the score from left-to-right, but interpretations need not be strictly linear. The ensemble should plan in advance the duration of a performance.
