Program note:
The work uses modular musical cells that are combined into solos, duos, trios, and quartets based on rolls of dice of various sides by the performers and the conductor. The combinations are broken up in movements, called modules, divided by interludes by the continuo group.
The work is a nod, of sorts, to 1.) roll-playing adventure games and 2.) the musical lineage of John Cage’s chance procedures.
