Program note:

This work invites the listener to a sound world based on resonant metals. The piece uses intricate, filigree patterns and broader masses of color all of which are based spectrally on the sounds of three metal percussion instruments used in the piece.

The work takes on an almost ritualistic flavor in the way it treats these sounds systematically and sacrosanct, as each metal instrument holds a personal value to me, is “opened up” and explored structurally in different sections of the piece. The work was written for, and is dedicated to, Hypercube Ensemble.
